 Our
2006-2007 inbound student received a grand send off form John
Wintersteen and Max Rumbaugh when she returned to Brasil. She
again expressed her sincere thanks to the Rotary
Club of Scottsdale and her host parents for all the
support during her
year.
Carol
Mello and Max Rumbaugh, just before Carol headed home to
Brasil, after a year as a Youth Exchange Student in
Scottsdale.
Carol Mello-- She is a
dedicated and committed young lady to have returned to complete her
exchange year. On June 6, she participated in the graduation
ceremonies at Saguaro High School and their all night graduation
party. She reports having a great time. Shortly
thereafter, she left on June 9 she left for the East
Coast Train Trip organized by Rotary. Thanks are
extended all the Rotarians who made her train trip possible.
Rotarian John Wintersteen
continued his tradition of taking our club's inbound students on a
hike up Camelback Mountain. Over the weekend he and Carol went
up the mountain to a cave, then returned for a leisurely
lunch. John reports that Carol is delightful young
lady that her English continues to improve. He also
noted that she has never been horseback riding and would enjoy the
opportunity to do so while in Scottsdale. Anyone who has
access to horseback riding is invited to contact Carol or
YE chair Max.
The hike up
Camelback served as a warm up for the week-end of October 13-15 when
all of District 5510 inbound students hiked down to Havasu
Falls.
The club's
response to Carol was just great. After the meeting several
Rotarians came up and offered to help Carol have a great year and to
take her to some of the places she wishes to see or experience while
here in Arizona with us. There were so many, I did not
record all of them. Julian Fruhling provided tickets for her,
her host brother and Gloria to go to the Diamondback's game on
Wednesday. (She had a great time at Rotary and at the baseball
game.) Mike Casey offered to have her over for dinner and
maybe take her to Flagstaff . Joey Borane has offered to host
all the District exchange students at the State Fair. Two
others offered to take her water skiing later this month. John
Wintersteen has again offered to take her hiking on Camelback
Mountain . Thanks to all. Please call her at
480/502-4760 or email her at carollima@qweb.com.br
if you will be able to host her for an
activity.
Some of the things on
her list include a concert, the theatre, basketball and
football. Let me know if I can help make any
arrangements. Right now her calendar is pretty open, except
for Oct 12-15 for a Havasu Falls trip, October 24-28 to California
with her host family and November 4 for the Rotary Foundation
Dinner.
Thanks for the
generosity of your time.
