The mission of Scottsdale
Rotary's Rotaplast Committee is to create awareness of the need
for reconstructive surgery to indigent children worldwide,
together with programs for education and prevention of birth
defects.
Rotaplast was started by the Rotary Club of
San Francisco and now partners with close to 300 Rotary Clubs
across the U. S. and its host countries and involves over 1,000
volunteers.
Since 1997 Rotaplast has expanded its original
mission to include genetic research and preventive
counseling. The long term goal is to use Rotary contacts to
form prevention centers that can alleviate a high percentage
of this anomaly.
To date over 4,000 patients have received
surgery and the numbers are increasingly dramatic as Rotary
grows.
I am the Rotaplast Ambassador for our district
and hope to eventually send an all-Arizona team on a mission.
Our district has sent a Rotary Volunteer and a pediatrician on
missions to South America.
